The Polar Bear Plunge

Earlier this month I had the privilege of photographing the Polar Bear Plunge at Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis

Participants raise money for the Special Olympics by being sponsored to jump en-masse through a hole cut in the ice. While I'm not ready to shed my camera and jump into the icy water yet (remember, I'm from Oregon, I'm still getting used to all these Minnesotan traditions!)--it sure was a blast capturing it for posterity. Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

This is one of my favorites--check out the guy on the far right!

Quite the sense of accomplishment for everyone involved

The Cities 97 crew got in on the fun

Some of the notable costumes included the Oompa-loompa's

and the cast from Saturday Night Live

Of course it wasn't all cold and unpleasant...

A few of the volunteers who made it all possible...
